Born in Paris in 1956 to a Vietnamese father and a French mother, Barbara Bui entered the fashion world in 1983 by opening the Kabuki boutique, Rue de Turbigo in Paris. She slowly began to introduce and to sell some of her own designs.
1987. First fashion show and presentation of the full collection to international press and buyers. The brand Barbara Bui was born.
1988. Opening of the first boutique on Rue Etienne Marcel in Paris. The impact of the boutique was accompanied by an international commercial success. Quickly Barbara Bui charmed with her style. The combination of both a sensitive and a rock`n`roll attitude revealing the character, freedom and self-confidence of a contemporary woman.
1988. Barbara Bui entered the stock market. That year, Bui created “Barbara Bui Initials”, a secondary line of separates designed to complement the spirit of the principal line. The special emphasis on the trousers, androgynous as well as feminine, encountered a lot of adepts.

1999. Barbara Bui held her first fashion show in New York and opened her first boutique in the heart of Soho. Other important openings took place that year, a boutique on Avenue Montaigne in Paris and another on Via Manzoni in Milan.
2000. Barbara Bui launched her first accessories collection, shoes and bags, which enhanced the success of the brand. The house developed the brand`s image through collaborations with high profile fashion photographers including David Bailey.
2003. The designer launched a new line “Bui”, oriented towards a “refined casual attitude”. Barbara Bui was unanimously elected a member of the “Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Francaise et des Createurs de Mode” and returned to the runways during the Paris Fashion Week.
2004. Launch of the first perfume “Barbara Bui Le Parfum”. A discrete, intimate and caressing sensuality, offered in a pure transparent bottle.
2005. Opening a corner at Printemps Haussmann department store, Paris.
2007. Barbara Bui inaugurated boutique devoted to the accessory with a new concept on the rue de Grenelle in Paris and Via Sant` Andrea in Milan. Barbara Bui opened her first boutique in partnership with Bosco di Ciliegi Group, in Moscow, on the Red Square.
Partnership signed with Chalhoub Group in the Middle East. Opening of a boutique in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
2008. Opening of the 550 m2 new flagship store in Paris, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honore, an international luxury showcase. Opening of a shoe shop-in-shop at Printemps Haussmann departmentstore, Paris.
2009. Opening of a boutique in Monaco. Opening of a boutique in Krasnodar, Russia. Atame by Barbara Bui, the first jewelry collection.
